This is your one-stop-shop for information about your Group Life policy with us
The untimely death of an employee can be a huge shock to a business but knowing that the people they leave behind are taken care of can help to ease the burden.
What your Group Life cover provides
With your Group Life policy, we’ll pay a lump sum and, if included in the policy, a death in service pension to an employee’s beneficiary should they die in service. This can help ease the financial burden for their loved ones.
We can support their family through bereavement, giving them access to counsellors via the Bereavement Helpline. Not only that, but our Group Life cover also provides a range of wellbeing support for the employee throughout their working life to help them live a happier, healthier lifestyle.
For full contractual details of your cover, please see your policy wording and schedule documents.
Why is Group Life cover good for your business?
You’ve provided a financial safety net for your employees’ dependants
Group Life Cover provides your insured employees’ loved ones with a financial safety net, helping them cope during the worst possible time. Although a lump sum payment or death in service pension can’t replace a beloved spouse, partner, mother or father, it can help to ease the financial burden when people need it the most. In 2023, Aviva paid out £250 million in Group Life claims.
You’ve enhanced your employee benefits package
This shows real commitment to your workforce. We believe Group Life cover and the wellbeing benefits included can make your business an attractive place to work.
You’ve provided wellbeing services for your staff
Aviva’s Group Life cover includes access to a range of wellbeing services to help your employees live a healthier, happier life. Discover your wellbeing services
These services are non-contractual benefits Aviva can change or withdraw at any time.
How to make a claim
It’s quick and easy to make a Group Life claim – and there’s usually no need to send us the original death certificate. Simply complete the online claims form.
If the claim is under a Master Trust scheme, you will need to submit a paper Master Trust claim form.
Complete member details
Tell us the member's details, as well as the scheme name and policy number. We also need to know the date, location and cause of death.
Confirm the payee details
Let us know who the beneficiary is, as well as any dependants’ details if there's a pension payable.
Review and submit to us
We'll send a confirmation email acknowledging receipt of the claim. And we'll be in touch if we need more information.
What we need from you each year
When it comes to your scheme anniversary, if you have a financial adviser, they will contact you when it's time to send an up-to-date list of members. If you don't have a financial adviser, we will contact you directly for this information.
Keeping scheme data up to date helps us ensure we can provide you with the right cover.
The information we need at each anniversary date for all insured members must include:
- Name
- Gender
- Date of birth
- Salary, earnings or benefit
- Occupation
- Work location (including postcode)
- Policy category (if more than one is covered)
- Date of joining (for any new member)
- Long term absentees
- Date of leaving for any member who has left the policy or is leaving the policy
- Any other relevant information such as members who are located overseas
