This is your one-stop-shop for information about your Group Critical Illness policy with us
As an employer, you don't need us to tell you that your employees are your most valuable assets.
Your employees are in safe hands with us. They have access to a range of benefits to support them in the good and the difficult times.
What your Group Critical Illness cover provides
With your Group Critical Illness policy, if an insured employee is diagnosed with a specified critical illness, or has an operation we cover, and survives for 14 days, we’ll pay them a tax-free lump sum to spend as they wish. Alongside the financial support it offers, your employees get a suite of wellbeing services to help them make informed, balanced and positive lifestyle choices. If the going gets tough, this includes support services to help them cope with stress and grief.
For full contractual details of your cover please see your policy wording and schedule documents.
Please be aware, Group Critical Illness isn't a life insurance policy so does not pay out if your employees die or have not already met the criteria for the claim.
What conditions are covered?
These conditions are included as standard as part of your Group Critical Illness policy. Please check your latest policy documents to confirm the type of cover you hold.

Why is Group Critical Illness cover good for your business?
You’ve created a financial safety net for your employees and their families
Group Critical Illness cover provides insured employees with a lump sum to spend on what they need: paying bills, making home alterations to help with a disability or their recovery. And our wellbeing services mean they have tools to help them manage the emotional difficulties which they may experience following a diagnosis or operation.
Your employees’ children have cover
As well as the conditions covered under your policy, your employees’ children are covered for nine child-specific conditions and two critical medical crises. Child cover benefit pays 25% of the value of an employee’s benefit up to a maximum of £25,000.
You’ve enhanced your employee benefits package
This shows real commitment to your workforce. Having to worry about finances when diagnosed with a critical illness or undergoing an operation can take its toll. This benefit can make the financial burden a little easier. We believe Group Critical Illness makes your business an attractive place to work when it comes to today’s difficult recruitment and retention environment.
You’ve provided health & wellbeing services for your staff
Aviva’s Critical Illness cover includes access to a range of wellbeing services to help your employees live a healthier, happier life. Discover your wellbeing services.
These services are non-contractual benefits that Aviva can change or withdraw at any time. Terms and usage limits may apply.
These services are available to employees who are permanent residents of Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man.
How to make a claim
Tell us within three months
Either you or your employee should let us know about the illness or operation within three months of diagnosis. Call us on 0800 015 7523 or send your employee the online form to complete.
Provide us with some information
We’ll ask for some information about your employee or their partner or child. We'll contact them directly for more information about their condition. We may also need their consent to contact the doctors involved in the diagnosis and treatment.
Once we've received the consent, we'll get in touch with the doctor or specialist treating your employee for more information.
Our claims team are experienced professionals who understand this can be a difficult time and will do all they can to help.
Arrange payment
If we’re happy with the details about the illness or operation, we’ll arrange to pay the lump sum. We’ll make the payment directly to the employee for the total amount covered.
Take a look at our Making a Claim guide for more information on the process.
