Where are you on your retirement journey?

Let’s begin with you. Are you only just starting to save into your pension? Or is retirement nearly within reach?

Take a look at some of the key things you need to know at this stage of your savings journey.

Starting to save

If you're in your 20s, retirement might seem like it's a lifetime away.

The fact is that tomorrow comes around sooner than you think. Taking action now could make that retirement a lot more enjoyable when it does come along.

Building your savings

If you're aged 35 to 45, you've likely got another 20 years to go until retirement and probably have plenty to think about already. Your career, your home, your family... busy times.

You've probably also thought about the need to provide for your retirement. You may have a pension, perhaps arranged through your work.

Almost done saving

Even with just five or ten years to go before you're due to retire, it's not too late to make important changes which could help you enjoy a better retirement. This is a good time to start thinking seriously about how long your money may need to last you – many people underestimate how long they may be retired.

Your Retirement Readiness preparation takes effect over three steps:

  1. Book your free telephone call for a time that suits you.

  • What are my options when it comes to combining my pensions?
  • What are the different ways I can take my pension income and when do I need to take action?
  • What happens to my unused pension money when I die, and what do I need to consider?
  • What are the tax implications of taking my pension income?
  • Where can I find what state benefits I am entitled to and how to apply for them?

Frequently asked questions

Questions you might have about The Bentley Pension Plan.

What are contributions?

Contributions refers to the money going into your pension. Both you and Bentley Motors pay into your pension.

Bentley Motors will start contributing to your pension when you join the pension scheme.

Refer to contract for contribution rates.

What are investments?

The money you invest into your pension doesn't just sit there waiting for you to retire. If you select the default fund with Aviva, your money will be pooled with that of other investors and invests it with the aim of growing your pension fund. Pooled funds are a way of putting sums of money from many people into a large fund spread across many investments which are managed by professionals.

Investing this way can be easier and less risky than buying shares directly or selecting funds as there is no much choice. Please bear in mind that the value of your pension fund can go down as well as up and it may be worth less than the amount paid in.

Your employer will have selected an appropriate default investment fund suitable for most pension scheme members, so you don't have to select your own investments if you don't want to. You can find out more about this default investment approach within the documents on the pension page.

What is a Master Trust?

The Bentley Pension Plan is part of a Master Trust. A Master Trust manages pensions for lots of employers. It’s run by Aviva, and looked after by the Trustee Board.

It’s the Trustee Board's job to make sure that the scheme is run for the benefit of its members. You can find out more in your member guide on the documents page.
