What is it?

When you lose someone close to you, dealing with your loss can seem like too much. Provided by Care first, the Bereavement Helpline offers emotional and practical support from qualified bereavement counsellors to help you cope. And if it's you who leaves us, your eligible family members can use the service to help them cope with their loss.

The Bereavement Helpline is available to insured employees and their eligible family members (spouse/partner or dependants aged over 16) as part of the employer's Group Life policy.

This service is a non-contractual benefit Aviva can change or withdraw at any time.

Group Life cover provides financial support to those left behind if an insured employee dies in service. Discover more about Group Life.

How is it helpful?

The immediate aftermath of losing someone can be confusing. The Bereavement Helpline offers you in-the-moment help with things such as:

  • what to do first
  • who to contact
  • how to support bereaved children
  • understanding of what to do in first five days after a loss

It helps to talk about grief

Coping with the death of someone close to you is difficult. The qualified bereavement counsellors can offer:

  • practical and emotional support
  • help with funeral arrangements
  • information on dealing with probate, including referrals to specialist organisations for support.

It's available at any time, no matter how long after bereavement.

This service is available to employees who are permanent residents of Great Britain, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man.
