People make businesses work so if employees aren't in good health, neither is the business. The Aviva DigiCare+ Workplace app offers a range of health-related benefits to help make a difference to employees and businesses.

Giving access to a large network of medical professionals.

The app and services are available to employees insured under one of Aviva's Group Protection policies.

And are provided by Square Health. They're non-contractual benefits that Aviva can change or withdraw at any time.

Privacy policy and terms and conditions apply.

We all know how important it is to keep on top of our health, but we don't always give it the attention it needs.

Aviva DigiCare+ Workplace offers insured employees an annual health assessment through a quick self-administered fingerprick blood test which can be taken at home and posted back to Square Health for analysis.

The test looks at 20 different health markers to help spot problems early on including the risk of diabetes, cholesterol status and liver health. Test results are received in a personalised health report which will include any recommended courses of action. A regular health check can help keep on top of health concerns, detect issues early and prevent future health problems.

It's not always easy to get a doctor's appointment so the digital GP service helps to provide a solution for non-emergency health matters.

Available between 8am and 8pm, 7 days a week, and offers 20-minute video consultations with a registered GP. Available to insured employees and their eligible family members, it offers medical advice and guidance and the peace of mind of being able to speak to a doctor quickly.

There may be limits to the number of times employees can use this service, they can check their full allowances within the app.

There's an option to view GP biographies before booking a consultation and to keep the same GP for multiple appointments. Simply complete a short section within the app to give some health background, then book the appointment.

With appointments usually available within 3 hours, it offers fast flexible access to medical advice. Medication costs apply and if the next day at home delivery service is selected, then delivery charges will also apply. This service is useful for everyday medical issues which normally mean a visit to the GP.

An initial diagnosis can come as a huge shock so a second opinion could offer new information and give some peace of mind.

The second medical opinion service gives access to a network of UK based clinical experts covering physical and mental health conditions. They can provide their medical opinion on a diagnosis originally given by a primary UK treating consultant.

Aviva DigiCare+ Workplace allows employees to share their second medical opinion consultations with their eligible family members. It offers face to face, telephone or in app consultations, a medical expert is then chosen based on their field of expertise or location. There may be limits to the number of times employees can use this service, they can check their full allowances within the app.

Once the necessary medical records are gathered the expert will review the case and issue a report detailing their diagnosis and recommended treatment plan. A second medical opinion could offer the confidence to go ahead and make important decisions about health and treatment paths.

Mental health is as important as physical health, acting quickly to prevent and detect mental wellbeing issues and getting help as early as possible can make a big difference. Aviva DigiCare+ Workplace Mental Health Consultations offers employees and their eligible family members quick access to tailored advice from qualified therapists. There may be limits to the number of times employees can use this service, they can check their full allowances within the app.

Whether its workplace stress, money worries, big changes in life or other events that can affect our mental wellbeing, this confidential service can help.

Generally, within 48 hours patients can get advice from a psychotherapist or cognitive behavioural therapist by video or phone, from the privacy of their own home. It could help avoid potential NHS waiting times and private treatment costs.

Therapists provide advice and devise a personal treatment plan and if needed can signpost to further support. It also provides emotional support if faced with bereavement.

It makes good sense to establish a healthy relationship with food, nutrition affects our physical and mental health and wellbeing. Understanding more about it can help reset relationships with food and encourage long term lifestyle changes.

Through Aviva DigiCare+ Workplace, nutritionists offer advice on healthy eating plans and encourage accountability for food choices and help to break bad habits. Employees have access to thirty-minute consultations with a trained nutritionist, which they can share with their eligible family members.  There may be limits to the number of times employees can use this service, they can check their full allowances within the app.

The nutritionist will develop a tailored personalised plan based around lifestyle factors such as sleep and stress. The advice aims to help establish relevant and achievable goals, focused around nutrition and lifestyle strategies.

How to give your employees access

It’s easy– just follow these simple steps.

1. Email the below information to digicare@aviva.com or get in touch with your usual Aviva contact.

  • Scheme name
  • Scheme number
  • Employer name (the ‘employer’ is the main contact at the company who will manage the app registrations)
  • Employer email address
  • Employer telephone number
  • Product activation date (the earliest date on which you’d like employees to receive an invite to download the app)

2. Aviva will check the information and pass it to Square Health.

3. Square Health will email the employer, giving them access to the Square Health Customer Portal.

4. The employer loads the work email addresses of the insured employees into the portal. They can do this via a Microsoft Excel CSV file, it usually takes around 20 minutes. You can find more information on the email upload process and the portal in our Customer Portal guide.

The employee email addresses are only shared with Square Health and only for the purpose of inviting employees to download the app and keeping them up to date with app and service information. View our data protection guide for information.

The Customer Portal guide also explains how to add and remove access for new joiners and leavers and explains how to give your employees access if they don’t have work email addresses.

5. Your employees will receive an email from Square Health inviting them to download and log in to the app.

6. The employee initially logs in to the app with their work email address. They can change this to a personal email address once logged in. Employees will need to agree to the terms and conditions and the privacy policy within the app to access the services.

If you need help, get in touch with your usual Aviva contact or email groupprotectionsalessupport@aviva.com

The app is compatible with most iOS and Android mobile devices. Mobile data charges may apply.

Prefer to pilot it first?

If you’d prefer to test the water and roll the app and services out to a few of your insured employees first, you might want to consider a pilot.

Follow the process above, loading only the chosen employee’s data into the portal and ask the pilot group to make use of some of the services such as the Health Check and Digital GP access.

You’ll then have an engaged group of employees who can help you promote the benefits to your workforce when you roll it out to the remaining employees.

Promoting the app and services

Here are plenty of promotional materials to help you shout about the app and services and help make sure your employees are making the most of the benefits available.

Transcript  for video Gregg's health check story

I’m Gregg Parker, I live over in Redditch with my partner Kate. We’ve got a little girl, Frankie, who’s eight, and that’s my family.

I work as a sales manager in mortgage services which I’ve done for nearly twenty years now.

I’d been having problems with my foot for a few years, getting progressively worse. It was getting to a point where roughly every three months it would keep me off my feet for about a week.

And at the time I was going to the GP to try and work out what was wrong with it ultimately.

Initially they thought it could be ill-fitting shoes, but obviously the pain kept coming back. They sent me for x-rays but that again didn’t return any results and they were looking for kind of an underlying break or fracture or something along those lines, that wasn’t the case.

When I wasn’t getting any immediate answers on the problem with my foot, I remembered through the Aviva protection cover, that I could go through the annual health check.

It was really easy to order the health check through the app, on doing so I think it asked for a couple of basic measurements and then I would send off for the kit and it arrived within a couple of days.

The test itself was pretty straightforward. It was just a pin prick on the finger, drawing a few drops of blood, which I didn’t find too bad to do at all and then that was sent back obviously for analysis. And two or three days later I got like a PDF on an email, and you can access the same thing through the app with the results.

There was different things they were testing for, and one of those was gout. Which was ultimately is what it highlighted in me being outside of the normal range.

It also gave me the option of having an online consultation with a GP to discuss the results of the test.

The consultation itself was a video call, so it felt really personable, and really easy to do. So that was about a day or two after I’d had the results back and I was having that consultation with that GP.

We all know what it’s like trying to get a GP appointment these days and that’s nothing I had to worry about, so it made it really simple.

And through conversation with that GP, and what I was telling him about the issues with my foot, and the results of the test they then advised to return to my GP with that information, which ultimately got me the right diagnosis.

So, i guess in terms of the DigiCare app, these things would cost a fair amount of money if paid for privately.

Having used it I suppose the ease, the experience, the quickness of getting the results through and how easy that was to do made it a really simple process.

I’ll be looking to do the health check annually moving forward. I have just done the recent one and obviously I guess because of the medication I’m on it was pleasing to see the gout was within the normal range, so obviously the medication is doing its job.

Without the benefit of the DigiCare app and the results of the health check, I guess the problems with the foot would have continued, possibly even got worse, and I’m not really sure if I’d have got to this point today, whether I’d have had a result, an outcome, and it would have started to impact on being able to work.

It seems quite a small thing, but quite a life changing thing if you consider where it could have gone.
